Your Result — Purple (Belonging • Bonds • Ritual)
Micro-Result
You’re showing as Purple—belonging-centered, kinship-first, guided by shared stories, symbols, and trusted elders. Your gifts are loyalty, mutual care, and creating meaning through ritual. Your current edge is adding personal boundaries and clear decisions without breaking belonging. Think “keep the circle, add a spine.” (Optional: view a 3-min demo.)
About this Assessment
This orientation blends Spiral Dynamics with classic developmental lenses. From Maslow, it considers motivational needs; from Piaget/constructivist work, how we form and revise meaning; from Wilber’s integral view, how self, behavior, culture, and systems interact. Items look at patterns in values, boundaries, and action preferences. Scoring is directional, not diagnostic—a mirror for your next experiment.
About this Map
The Arc of Human Development
Human beings don’t grow in a straight line. We evolve through recognizable stages of meaning-making, each with its own gifts, limits, and worldview. Spiral Dynamics—building on the research of Clare Graves and extended by Beck, Cowan, Wilber, Cook-Greuter, and others—offers a map of these stages. The map is not the territory, but it helps you locate yourself within the landscape of growth.
Each stage emerges as a solution to life’s challenges—and, over time, becomes a problem when the world’s complexity outgrows that solution. That tension is what moves us forward.
Most of everyday life unfolds within Tier 1 (from Beige survival through Green community). These stages are invaluable—and limited. Eventually, many people feel the edges of Tier 1 itself. That is where the great threshold appears: the leap to Tier 2.
Unlike earlier transitions, this leap is about integration, not replacement. Tier 2 doesn’t dismiss earlier stages; it includes them, seeing their proper roles and weaving their strengths into a larger whole. It’s less “climbing higher” and more opening wider.
This is why finding your current location matters. You can’t leap from an abstraction—you can only leap from where you truly stand. When you locate yourself on the spiral, you begin to see the gift and the trap of your present worldview: how it shapes your choices, relationships, and recurring patterns.
Growth isn’t always comfortable. It asks for honesty, humility, and courage. But the reward is greater freedom: the capacity to hold complexity without collapsing into division, to act with clarity in times of accelerating change.
Your personalized report below reflects the stage you are most aligned with right now. Remember: development is a spiral, not a ladder. You likely carry attachments to the stage you’ve grown through and tendrils reaching toward the stage ahead. Let this page be a mirror, not a box—an orientation for the next true step in your journey.
The Purple Stage
Purple is the voice of belonging and protection through the group. It weaves safety with ritual, tradition, and shared myth. Purple stabilizes the raw survival of Beige by forming trusted bonds, honoring elders, and tending place and kin.
The Gifts of Purple
- Strong loyalty and mutual care; people feel “held.”
- Meaning through ritual/story; shared symbols that motivate action.
- Stewardship of place/ancestors; continuity and memory.
- Early conflict smoothing via elders and ceremony.
- Watchfulness: protects the vulnerable; notices subtle shifts.
The Challenges of Purple
- In-group / out-group bias; suspicion of outsiders.
- Conformity; reluctance to stand out or name hard truths.
- Magical thinking over evidence; superstition can stall change.
- Diffuse decisions; deference to elders slows needed action.
- Gossip/triangulation; blurry boundaries under the banner of harmony.
Feels like (today)
You feel safest when the circle is intact. You may self-silence to avoid ripples, or wait for an elder/leader before moving. Harmony matters—but decisions and clear asks often stall.
Opens from here (Bridge to Red)
Keep the circle; add agency. Red is healthy “I can”—clear boundaries, direct asks, and decisive moves that protect what (and who) you love. Nothing is taken away; belonging gains a backbone. Try naming who decides what, and practice one plain, kind ask at a time.
One move this week
Pick 1 value → make 1 principle → run 1 ritual (7 days).
Example: “Belonging → We speak needs plainly with kindness.”
- Write the principle in one sentence.
- Run a 10-minute ‘circle check’ (Mon/Thu): make one direct ask and name one boundary kindly.
- Track one signal all week: direct asks made or decisions made without triangulation. Adjust; don’t argue.
Sanctuary Bridge — From Snapshot to Sanctuary
Big shifts often start with small, precise moves—what Buckminster Fuller called a trim tab: a tiny adjustment that turns the whole ship. This bridge is your trim tab.
In Integral terms, real learning has width, length, and depth:
- Width = widen perspectives (see more of the system)
- Length = keep a rhythm over time (a simple weekly cadence)
- Depth = meet what’s inside (values, narratives, assumptions)
You Are Here
Stage is location, not identity. There’s a doorway to Yellow from here.
- Beige → Yellow: Close to zero reveals signal. Essentials become truth. (Back door open.)
- Purple → Yellow: Keep belonging; loosen the walls. (Trap risk: loyalty over reality.)
- Red → Yellow: Power becomes stewardship—channel it into systems that outlast you.
- Blue → Yellow: Order stays beautiful—see many orders; serve the best fit.
- Orange → Yellow: Optimize across systems, not just metrics. Funding becomes building.
- Green → Yellow: Care + vertical discernment. Don’t lose the heart; add the spine.
Note: Green often gets pulled back toward Purple—your window is now.
The Great Work (21 Days)
This isn’t for everyone.
The Great Work can feel wrong at first—like changing your golf grip. Awkward now; truer later.
If you resonate, if you resist, or if you’re simply curious—you’re in the right neighborhood.
For 21 days: suspend disbelief, practice Great Doubt, and choose Truth over comfort.
Our promise: warm Affinity, shared Reality (a master blueprint of mystical/metaphysical maps of the territory), and clean Communication—so the work is hard, never harsh.
Credibility: Built from long practice in Yellow, with empathy for Beige, Red, and Orange—integrating Yoga, Spiral Dynamics, and mystical/metaphysical maps of the territory.
Consideration: This program may be demanding and counterintuitive. If it isn’t a clear yes, honor that and keep your results—you’re welcome back anytime.
